Reading
This year in reading your child will be with Mrs. Giganti for 90 minutes of their day to explore many fiction and non-fiction text.
Our year will broken up into 5 units of study:
Unit 1: Stories Worth Telling
This unit will include Trickster Tales, Legends and Native American Stories, as well as a class novel, The Stories Julian Tells by Ann Cameron.
Unit 2: Inspired by the Sea
This unit will include stories all about the sea! We will read two class novels, The Storm and Sarah Plain and Tall both by Cynthia Rylant! We will also be exploring lots of non fiction text pertaining to the sea.
Unit 3: Notable People
We will be reading and learning about various notable people in history with a focus on Black History Month, Presidents and our government.
Unit 4: Fairy Tales
During this unit, we will be exploring many known and unknown fairy tales from across the world. Students will be surprised to find out where a lot of their favorite Disney Fairy Tales really come from. We will be reading classics like Little Red Riding Hood and its Chinese counterpart, Lon Po Po. Along with many others!
Unit 5: United States Region Tour
Students will travel around to some of the regions of the United States to learn all about what makes them unique. We will explore the Northeastern most part of the United States, West Quoddy Head, down to the Florida Everglade and many more stops along the way!
